Many months ago, we were approached by the esteemed Woods’ Silver Fleet, a Thames river based Yacht restaurant group, to create a beautiful apron for their waiting staff.
To work with a company known for serving and transporting dignitaries and Royalty on the Thames for over almost 7 decades -we were a little excited to say the least.
Little did we realise, but our apron obsession had begun…
We started seeing aprons everywhere, even in the pre Autumn Winter presentations, Maison Martin Margiela created deconstructed garments with heavy cottons and denim.
Since our collaboration with Woods Silver Fleet, apron orders have been coming in thick and fast. We can’t get enough!
The possibilities are endless, using leather trims to create a beautiful artisan apron, to mixing fabric constructions and textures- twill weaves contrast herringbone weaves in one of our designs.
The next thing to consider is the hardware. Oh the hardware. Eyelets, rivets, clips and clasps in any number of finishes, gold, brass, gunmetal, rose gold… the list goes on. Our studio is covered in these beautiful trims.
Now as you can tell, these aprons are no laughing matter. These aprons are a complex mix of top of the range hardware on beautiful technical fabrics (Uniform in the food industry is washed at extremely high temperatures daily, so our fabrics can withstand washes of up to 85 degrees to kill any germs and bacteria) Our apron fabrics are selected for their after care properties.
Our obsession has reached the point where we can’t enjoy a humble drink at our local bar, (being based in Shoreditch, we are surrounded by cool bars and coffee shops) we were too interested in the barman’s totally cool artisan apron. Yes he thought we were odd, but what an apron!
The excitement reached its peak earlier this week, when we received samples of one of our aprons from our factory’s sampling room. This calls for a fitting! Jane was really happy with the fit, as you can see from our mini studio photoshoot…
We are really noticing a trend in these luxury aprons, with many of our clients wanting to provide their staff with beautiful aprons. An artisan apron is a great way for a restaurant or coffee shop to extend its branding and update an existing uniform.
So next time you visit your local coffee shop, look out for their aprons, and if they haven’t got a beautiful leather trim, rivet covered apron… -we’re onto it.
